Black Boy and Babymouse

Dear Edubloggers,

As you may know by reading my fellow students blogs, you will know that we have been reading the autobiographic book “Black Boy”, based on the life of Richard Wright. It was extremely sad, yet moving, and in a way, poetic.
Summed up, we figured out that Richard Wright left out some parts in his biography, such as that his mother was a successful schoolteacher, or that a white family took him in. We first thought this was wrong, but then we realised that Richard Wright wanted his biography to be about a black boy.

We have started reading graphic novels in class. I read a book called Babymouse, queen of the world. As you might guess, it’s about a mouse, called Baby Mouse, who wants to be queen of the world (hense, hense). Then I read Nancy Drew. Really good!

I am also helping my friend Anastasia with her story Lettuce Garden. I am helping her with idea’s, and we are writing it under one name, Iwa Hyuuga (Japanese Name). I really enjoy writing Lettuce Garden, as I am now writing in a style I have never written before. We hope to get it published one day!

:) XxX

Welcome to my World!

Hello, every one on Edublogs,

Today, I am going to fill every one in about where I live and facts about where I live. So, where do I live???

Go to the map of the world. Right, find Europe. Go to England and turn right. You will see a tiny spot there that is about as big as mouse poo on the map, but is pretty big in reality. Found it? Ok, so now you see Holland on the map, or The Netherlands. On closer looks, you will see a weeny, weeny  blob on the map of Holland called Hilversum. That is where I live. OK, OK, if you want to get technical, I live in a village in Hilversum. Its called Loosdrecht.

I love my house. Its bright, tidy, and welcoming. I supose I love my school aswell. I have awesome friends.

Hilversum:

So, let’s have a grand tour (drum roll, please) of Hilversum!

Hilversum is not one of the major cities in the Netherlands, yet it’s on of the biggest towns I have ever lived in. I used to live in a small village know one really knows. Anyway, I live in Hilversum. Loosdrecht, to be technical. My best friend Anastasia lives in a town close to Hilversum aswell. Please, feel free to visit her blog!:)

In the Netherlands we have a thing called Sinterklaas. He is like father christmas. He has two black helpers, who dress up in funny costumes. They are called Zwarte Piet. The children are allowed to put there shoe’s out at night, and then the Sint and his helpers come and fill the shoes with presents. On December the 5th, he and his helpers put a big sack of presents on childrens front door, and leaves the next day.

I love living in Holland, but I would love to explore new places. I am moving to Switserland in Summer 2009. I am looking forward to it!

I hope you have learned a bit about Holland!

Lot’s of Love.

New Book!
Posted on October 28th, 2008 at 11:16 am by ishlottie and

Heya!

This week I have been reading a new book. It’s called ‘Saffy’s Angel’, by Hilary McKay. It’s a very moving a beautiful book, and I recomend it to everyone! Here is the plot (written by me!):

Young Saffron (Saffy) lives in a crazy house with her younger sister Rose, her younger brother Indigo, her older sister Cadmium (also known as ‘Caddy’), her father Bill and her mum Eve. Both Saffy’s parents are artists, and they have named all their children after colours

But soon Saffron realises that her name is not a colour, and investigates her parents. It turns out that she is adopted, and her real mum dies, and the her adopted parents are really her aunts, and that her brother and sisters are really her cousins. Since then Saffrons world is changed upside down. She is nevery happy again. Soon Saffron’s world is even more destroyed, as her grandpa slowly passes away. In his will he leaves Saffy a stone angel, an angel in Italy, Siena, where she used to live with her mother. Saffy goes there with her friend Sarah, but as they get there, it turns out that the angel is not there. It is back in England.

To see how Saffy find’s her angel, I recomend you to read this book!

Lots of Love
